Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup, built for the 2022 to 2025 model years
Updated November 2026

The F-150 Lightning Has Been Discontinued — Here's What to Get Instead

Ford ended production of the all-electric F-150 Lightning in December 2025. You can still buy one used, and we sell used Lightnings here in Kent. If you’d rather buy new, look at the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid or reserve the all-new, all-electric Ford Fathom.

What Happened to the F-150 Lightning?

Ford officially confirmed the end of the all-electric F-150 Lightning on December 15, 2025, taking a multibillion-dollar charge on its EV programs as part of a broader pivot. Ford said production of the 2025 model year had ended that month, so new Lightnings can no longer be ordered. Used ones are still for sale, including used F-150 Lightnings here at Bowen Scarff Ford. Ford's stated reason centered on real-world feedback: towing range dropped sharply on a pure-electric platform, and the cost of a large battery pack kept pricing high. Ford's answer is twofold — a hybrid that solves the range problem today, and a smaller, more affordable EV for buyers who want to go fully electric.

Looking Further Ahead: The Lightning EREV

Ford has confirmed it's building a next-generation F-150 Lightning around extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technology — the truck drives on electric power alone, while an onboard gas generator recharges the battery on the go, targeting over 700 miles of combined range. Ford has not announced a firm launch date. Outside estimates have ranged anywhere from 2027 to 2029. We'll update this page the moment Ford confirms specifics — for now, the real options are a used Lightning, the PowerBoost Hybrid or a Fathom reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the F-150 Lightning still available?

Not new. Ford ended production of the all-electric Lightning in December 2025, so new ones can’t be ordered. You can still buy one used: shop our used F-150 Lightnings.

How far can an F-150 Lightning go on a charge?

EPA ratings for 2022 to 2024 models are 230 to 240 miles with the standard-range battery, 320 miles with the extended-range battery, and 300 miles for the Platinum. Towing and cold weather cut range.

What replaces the Lightning?

If you want a Lightning, buy one used. For new, there’s the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, available now, and the all-electric Ford Fathom, with official preorders planned for early 2027.

What is Pro Power Onboard?

Ford’s built-in generator feature. The PowerBoost Hybrid exports up to 7.2 kW, and the Lightning up to 9.6 kW depending on trim — enough to run job-site tools or a campsite.

What is the Ford Fathom?

Ford’s new all-electric midsize pickup on the Universal EV Platform, starting at $28,350. Full details →

Is Ford bringing an electric Lightning back?

Not as a pure EV. Ford says the next Lightning will be an extended-range EV (EREV) with an onboard gas generator, targeting 700+ miles of range. No launch date yet.
